LAZERWOLFS - "Get Mad" (Private)
Whooda thunk it?? I personally had no idea that a band from an unlikely rock haven like Missoula, Montana could weave together such a collection of footstompin' tunes as we have here! The highly addictive, fuel-injected Strat riffs of Jimmy Rolle and Chris LaTray's laid-back vocal style calls to mind some of the groovinest Bob Balch-era FU MANCHU stuff. I found it particularly difficult not to reach for my air drums while enjoying the cowbell-and-toms feast served up by stickman Bubba Warne in "Dissent", a groove masterpiece, complete with some ultra-cool changes and Angus-approved riffage. Every track on this CD is a study in top notch riff work and spacey, icicle leads. The whole thing culminates in the grand finale closer, "Ort", clocking in at over ten minutes of NEBULA-styled jamming. Rolle stretches out again with some great, spacy leads and psychedelic squeaks and guitar babbles a la Tom Morello. Great stuff! Sum it up to say, buy this CD and keep it in your car at all times.
