THE SECOND FULL-LENGTH LAZERWOLFS RELEASE!
Nearly four years after the release of our debut, GET MAD, we are proud to bring you the follow-up: NAVAJA AUTOMATICA. This time things are a little different. At this point, there is no concrete plan to release the record as a CD-for-purchase, though that may change. In order to just get it out, we have decided to release it directly as a free download.
Why this approach, and why did it take so friggin' long between albums? Sometimes it seems to us like the recording would never come out, but the time it has taken has not been entirely our decision. For starters, GET MAD's release coincided with Chris' move to Ohio, which definitely made it difficult for us to write, record, and do shows. That took the better part of three years, though we did manage to keep things afloat. When he moved back to Missoula in '04, we got to work writing songs, and things went very well moving forward.
Navaja was wrapped up more than a year ago, recorded and ready to go, and it was at that point that we originally intended to put it out as a more standard package, complete with CDs, jewel case, etc. We were looking at art ideas and such in the spring of '06 when fate stepped in again and presented another setback. This time it was our drummer, Bryan "Bubba" Warne, who injured his back bad enough that it required surgery. We essentially lost all of 2006 while he recovered, and only now have we returned to playing again.
We are proud of the songs we recorded, but we have been playing many of them for three years now. We would rather move forward and start working on something new. That takes nothing away from this collection of music, but we also realize we aren't some bigwig label band with any expectations on us beyond what we want to do for ourselves. No one but us has any time or money invested in this record, so we aren't obligated to do anything more with than we choose to. That said, we want to start on the next project, and make these songs available to people who are interested to hear what we have been doing. We still may press CDs in a limited fashion to sell at shows, but for now we just want people to hear our stuff - giving it away at this point seems like the best way to do it. So please, download the record, and let us know what you think. We promise plenty more where this came from!
