Lazerwolfs. The State of Montana makes its first appearance in Metal USA, courtesy of a band of rock n rollers known as Lazerwolfs. I’ve never been to Montana and when the name comes up I think back to something a friend of mine once told me about the state: “Montana: Where all the men are men and all the sheep are nervous.” Hey, he’s a native, so I guess he can say that type of thing. Anyway, the Missoula band’s album, Get Mad, is unabashedly straight-up hard rock n roll. The seven songs here consist of classic rock riffs, tough singing, and a fairly good sense of melodic song-craft. I wouldn’t call this retro; it just sticks to a classic old-school formula, yet still sounds modern enough to give the band a good chance of getting some radio play. The thick guitar tone and tight rhythm section combines with a strong groove factor to make this an enjoyable listen. Particularly noteworthy is the white-hot bluesy guitar work on “Elemental,” a style that brought Robin Trower to mind. Lazerwolfs are: Jimmy Rolle (guitar), Chris La Tray (bass/vocals), and Bryan “Bubba” Warne (drums). Find out how to get a copy of the debut album by visiting www.lazerwolfs.com
