LAZERWOLFS - "Navaja Automatica" CD '06 (Private, US)
LAZERWOLFS are from Montana & while I'm from Maryland, I can dig where they're coming from. They're no spring chickens, have families & long-term day jobs & because of that, all-nighters in a stinking van & club gigs before a crowd of 5 in East Bumfuck just ain't happenin'. So, to get their music out there, they've put their latest, "Navajo Automatica" on the net as a free download. All that's left for me to complete this cool pic is to tell you the album rules & it does. Heavy-ass kicking 3-piece and organic as hell, LAZERWOLFS power through 11 songs as good or better than anything you've heard lately on Meteor City or Southern Lord (and that's no knock on those labels, by any means, just using them as a yardstick of quality). This is real, get-down, meat & potatoes rawk that shakes you by the shirt collar. Just listen to openers "Prowl" & "Switchblade." To add icing to the cake, a totally cool thing happens late in the album in the track "Burn" where we're treated to a particularily killer segment. See, the whole band stops for a minute & we get a bluesy, fretboard-smokin' solo guitar thing not unlike something Lord Iommi would've uncorked on Side 2 of the first Sabs disc. I think I'm in love.
