LAZERWOLFS - "Get Mad" CD '02 (Private, US)

Sometimes, you just get a feel. I've been reviewing music for quite awhile & when I heard about this heavy-handed band from Montana, it seemed to be calling my name. Dang, glad I answered! I've gotta admit, even though LAZERWOLFS had an EP out before this full-length, I'd never heard of 'em, but on the strength of this, the world should. A 3-piece, one-guitar band (as many of the best heavy ones are!), these guys crank up a seriously riffing, heavy rockin' feel, as nasty & volatile as any stoner band you've ever heard. Taking them way beyond the norm, however, is the way they can take it out, stretch out into awesome ripping jamming, for instance in the L-O-N-G "Ort," where guitarist Jimmy Rolle hangs out some of the most perceptive heavy playing I've heard in a long time. Far from a one-man show, LAZERWOLFS also feature Chris LaTray, who's commanding vocals share the spotlight with his bass playing. And, like any 4-stringer in a raging power trio should be, that playing is far, FAR from pedestrian. He lays down the business with major feel, complimented by the off-going stickwork of Bubba Warne. Man, I have only listened to this disc a few times so far and I already really LOVE IT! This, as I've said about the best, is the kind of album you want to play loud as the devil while you're roaring down the road with the windows down, then go home, get your guitar out & blast it for half the day. Top-shelf, # 1 kinda stuff & anybody reading this page who likes to rock with the best needs to order now!
