LAZERWOLFS -- GET MAD
Un viaggio a ritroso nel tempo per riscoprire i sapori del rock. Sembra questa la missione dei Lazerwolfs, band di Missoula, nel Montana, al debutto con questo "Get mad".
In realtà non si tratta di un vero e proprio esordio in quanto il bassista e cantante del gruppo, Chris LaTray, bazzica la scena rock del Montana fin dagli anni '80. Per certi versi è anche a quel periodo che la musica dei Lazerwolfs fa riferimento, ma è solo una parte del calderone nel quale i tre mischiano le influenze più disparate. Se gli anni '70 vengono ripresi in chiave hard rock (soprattutto nell'irruenza melodica dei primi Kiss), la passione per gli '80 esce allo scoperto in una certa attitudine metal che attraversa le sette composizioni del disco, mentre è dallo stoner rock di Fu Manchu e Nebula che viene mutuato il gusto per i fuzz, le distorsioni hendrixiane e la psichedelia lisergica.
Un impasto che fa esplodere i suoi componenti in vere e proprie schegge come le iniziali "Bonfire" e "Fotc", brani carichi di vibrazioni rock'n'roll dove la chitarra di Jimmy Rolle si lancia in riff e assoli travolgenti, ottimamente supportata da Chris al basso e Bubba Warne alla batteria.
Sulla stessa scia proseguono anche "Big rig" e "Ride", cavalcate piene di spirito punk e di amore per il suono dei seventies. Sorprendono invece alcuni momenti particolari come lo stacco dilatato posto nel bel mezzo di "Dissent", trascinante mid tempo dall'andamento cadenzato e graffiante. Allo stesso modo intricate partiture psichedeliche caratterizzano lunghi brani come "Elemental" (pezzo che sembra preso in prestito dal repertorio dei King's X&) e la conclusiva "Ort", oltre dieci minuti di rock acido e chitarristico che chiude il lavoro nel migliore dei modi.
"Get mad" è un sano ed onesto disco di rock senza compromessi, intelligente nel saper unire influenze diverse e mai banale. Solo chitarra, basso e batteria, nient'altro.
